Historique :	Tableau antérieur à 1675. Monseigneur Bertierfut évêque de Montauban (1652-1675). Le cadre de bois sculpté repeint à une époque récente paraît contemporain du tableau.

Précision_sur la representation :	Saint Benoît debout vêtu de la coule noire de son ordre tient un grand livre de sa main droite et une crosse de la main gauche. Dans un paysage apparaissent divers miracles du saint. A gauche, le moine PLacide qui allait se noyer est secouru. A droite, saint Benoît se roule nu dans les ronces épineuses. Au-dessus sans doute la fondation de l'abbaye du Mont Cassin où saint Benoît donna sa règle à ses premiers moines. Sur un parchemin en bas à gauche : 'SANCTUS BENEDICTUS'.
